  1. RESEARCH
 

Following studies have been undertaken by Development Associates (DA) so far:

 
  • Ground Realities of Commercial Sex Workers in the Slums and Resettlement Colonies of Delhi (2007-08)
 
  The study was conducted for JEET (Joint Efforts for Empowerment thru Training), a Delhi based organization. The commercial sex workers operating in slums and resettlement colonies of Delhi were interviewed for the study. The study threw light on the crucial aspects of the sex workers not known to the common people. The study was conducted in order to reinforce AIDS prevention program of Delhi State AIDS Control Society run by JEET.
 
  • Sexual Behavior of Truckers in Delhi (2004-05)
 
  The study was conducted for the truckers operating on National Highway Number 1, and the adjoining communities on either sides of the road in Northwest district of Delhi. The clientele was truckers, commercial sex workers (CSWs), doctors, hospitals and contact persons of the CSWs.
 
  • Action Against AIDS (2004-05)
 
  The study was conducted in the state of Uttar Pradesh in order to evaluate outcome of the projects of a Singapore based organization - “Children of Mother Earth”.
 
  • Development Priorities of Indian Organizations (1999 - 2000)
 
 

The study was conducted to analyze the status of Indian implementing agencies, vis-à-vis, priorities, strengths, resources and mutual areas of cooperation for utilization of local wisdom and resources. Simultaneously priorities of international funding agencies were also analyzed.

 
  • Girl Child Education thru NFE in slums of Delhi (1999)
 
 

The study was conducted to analyze the impact of the 30 NFE schools on the masses with special reference to education of girl child. The utility of Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee (BRAC) NFPE Model, as a means to initiate development programs in community, was critically reviewed for SAMARTH, a Delhi based NGO. These schools were running in the slums and resettlement colonies of Delhi for some time.

 
  • Evaluation of NFE Schools of Rajasthan based NGOs (1999)
 
  The study was conducted for CECOEDECON, Jaipur in Rajasthan in order to analyze status of 57 NFE schools and impact of the program on community with a view to expand the program of 7 NGOs, by making suitable improvements. These schools were located mainly in rural areas of Rajasthan.
 
  • Sexual Health concerns of Transporters (1998)
 
  The study was done in order to identify sexual health related concerns of trunkers and sex workers to initiate development programs especially for AIDS prevention in the state of Rajasthan. Concerned government officials, truckers, quacks operating in the area, contact persons and sex workers were interviewed for the purpose.
 
  • Development Priorities of Funding Agencies (1995)
 
 

This was an exploratory exercise done to identify the potential resource agencies of world and their priority areas, by contacting different sources all over the world. The same was later on published as “Resource Manual” during 1995-96. Detailed information on micro and macro planning was also included in the book with a view to help the organizations to identify suitable resource agencies to support local developmental initiatives.

The exercise was repeated next year and Revised Version of the document was also made accessible during the year
1996-97.

The exercise was repeated for the third time in 2003-04 and incorporated in third edition of Resource Manual. The same information was published and shared among about 3000 development organizations.

 
   2. TRAINING PROGRAMS
 

Conduct training courses on different themes for grass roots, middle and senior level functionaries to develop faculty cadre of the organizations as core trainers. More than 2000 functionaries of different organizations across the country have participated in different training courses of DA so far.

  • Sectoral issues, such as, Time Management, Non Formal Education, Pre-Primary Education, Self-Help Groups, Behavior Modification, etc.
 
 
   3. ADVISORY SERVICES AND DOCUMENTATION SUPPORT
 

Advisory services are provided for helping the organizations to make decision on their priorities and helping them to plan according to the priorities, either by direct contact or thru postal counseling. The service has helped the organizations to minimize their exploitation from the miscreants in following areas.

 
  • Planning
 
 

About 200 organizations have been counseled to set their development priorities and develop program accordingly and keep aloof from the people having vested interests. The information was provided with desired guidance and support at right time to make realistic planning. This included a series of meetings with each of the associate organizations.

 
  • Resource Mobilization
 
  Many organizations don't succeed in arranging desired financial support in the absence of systematic planning and documentation. About 150 development agencies from different states have been supported to raise financial resources for their development programs from different sources by following a systematic approach and submitting adequate documents.
 
  • Postal Counseling
 
 

This service has been initiated for tele-counseling. Sources of information are not accessible to the organization working in the distant areas. The DA developed linkages with such organizations and started postal counseling for giving them the desired information enabling them to arrive at the desired decision. More than 2000 organizations have been provided counseling to facilitate their work. These organizations are working in all parts of the country with a sizable population.

 
   4. PUBLICATIONS
 

Diffusion of technical and educative information is done by way of publications, such as books, periodicals, modules and model project proposals.

 

•  Published thirteen books so far:

Resource Manual (1995): The book contains information on about 3000 funding agencies/programs all over the world. Third edition (2003) of the book is currently available.

Development Organizations for 21 st Century (2000): The book contains information on strengths, priorities and mutual areas of cooperation of Indian implementing agencies and profiles of 523 International funding agencies working in Indian Sub-Continent.

Multi-Level-Marketing - Key Facts (2000): The book has been prepared to educate the people on different issues related with the popular multi level marketing system.

Network Business- Stepping Tips (2000): The book has been developed to facilitate network business at individual levels popularly being practiced across the country.

Global Funding Agencies for Disaster Relief (2001): The book contains addresses of funding agencies having disaster relief as one of the top priorities and also suggested guidelines for preparing project proposal for disaster relief.

Global Funding Agencies for Human Rights (2001): The book contains addresses of funding agencies having Human Rights as one of the top priorities and also suggested guidelines for preparing project proposal for Human Rights.

Global Friends for AIDS Control (2001): The book contains basic information on AIDS and addresses of funding agencies having AIDS as one of the top priorities and also suggested guidelines for preparing project proposal for AIDS.

Project Proposal Formulation- A Reference Book cum Training Module (2002): The book contains ready to use material for training slides, procedural steps for project proposal marketing and a specimen training proposal and a report.

The Art of Fundraising (2005) : The book contains information on different systems of fundraising and also addresses of international fundraisers

Resource Organizations of Australia (2005): The book contains information about the resource organizations of Australia and New Zealand.

Resource Organizations for Health Sector (2005): The book contains addresses of the international resource organizations supporting health sector.

Project Proposal Margdarshika (2005): This book is in Hindi. It contains information about the techniques of project proposal formulation.

Guidelines for Society Formation (2005): The book contains details about Society registration.
 

•  Periodic Publication

 
  "The Development Times" a newsletter (currently stopped and under review) was circulated to about 1000 organizations (member and other aspirant organizations) for about 7 years. The publication was not only a newsmagazine of the organization but an education tool for the readers. Information on legal issues, development priorities, popular trends and emerging issues constituted content of the letter for circulation.
 

•  Training Modules

 
  Four Training Modules have been developed namely; Project Formulation; Leadership Development, Documentation and Non Formal Education.
 

•  Model Project Proposals

 
  Model Project Proposals on 35 different developmental issues were prepared in order to provide guidance and support to the organizations for formulating proposals for their respective communities. The proposals were made accessible to the organizations as per need expressed by them. It has helped the organizations to enhance their skill of project proposal formulation and consequently to avoid exploitation from the people having vested interest. Of late, the DA emphasizes on capacity building in stead of providing model projects.
 
   5. NETWORKING
 
The DA believes in joint action and basic ability of individuals to work effectively, provided direction and information are provided at right time. In the same context a network has been initiated at national level so that a collective voice and action may be taken on different occasions. More than 100 organizations, from different states of country, are associated as "Associate Fellows" of the organization and, are provided regular development support for their respective programs/organizations covering d ifferent development trends, priorities and statutory requirements by way of postal counseling, news flash, periodical, etc.
 
 
   6. COMMUNITY BASED PROGRAM
 
 

•  Skill Training

 
  Skill building program has been implemented for the women of slums, in North West District of NCT of Delhi . One skill training centre on beauty culture is functioning in Rohini. The women and girls from the target area are imparted complete professional course of beauty culture. These girls area also helped to seek employment in different beauty parlors. Some of them are gain fully self-employed.
 

•  Consumers Education

 
  Educational material is prepared and disseminated among the people to acquire authentic information on different popular trends. So far two books have been prepared under consumer education program, keeping in view the popularity of multi-level marketing in the country.
